Collapse ▲For every event you create in Extension Eventbrite, setting a clear and accurate location is not just a formality – it’s a critical step that significantly impacts your event’s visibility and success. This applies whether your event is in-person or online.
Why Location Matters So Much
- Enhanced Searchability on Eventbrite: Potential attendees often search for events based on their location, including a selection for Online. If your event lacks a defined location, it simply won’t appear in these crucial search results, making it much harder for people to find and register.
- Improved SEO (Search Engine Optimization): Beyond Eventbrite itself, major search engines like Google rely heavily on location data to deliver relevant results. A well-specified location helps your event rank higher in local search queries, ensuring that individuals in your target area can easily discover it.
- Clear Information for Attendees: Most importantly, a precise location eliminates confusion for your attendees. Knowing exactly where to go (or how to access an online event) contributes to a smoother and more positive experience for everyone involved.
How to Set Your Event Location
To properly set the location for your event within the Eventbrite interface:
- Navigate to the Build Event Page for your specific event.
- Locate and select the Date and Location box.
You will then be presented with options to define your event’s location:- Venue: Choose this option for in-person events. Enter the full physical address of your venue. Eventbrite often provides auto-suggestions as you type, helping to ensure accuracy. If you are in a county, begin by typing N.C. Cooperative Extension, countyname and your county’s address should be selected.
- Online Event: Select this for all virtual events. After choosing “Online Event,” you will be prompted to add details about how attendees can access the event (e.g., Zoom meeting link, virtual platform details, specific instructions).
Best Practice: Avoid “To Be Announced”
While “To Be Announced” (or “To be determined”) is an option within the Eventbrite interface, Extension Eventbrite events should never be published with this selected.
For optimal visibility, clear communication, and to ensure your event is discoverable, you must always select either a physical venue or “Online Event” before publishing.
By consistently setting accurate and complete location information, you’ll significantly increase your event’s discoverability and provide a better experience for your participants.
