Our publications database currently has 2,905 active publications full of valuable information, so how can you make sure yours gets as much visibility as possible?

Avoid PDF Files

PDFs can be wonderful tools for ensuring consistency with printed publications, but they have some drawbacks. Consider using them only supplementally and sticking to web-based content when possible. We know that most users find our content after using a search engine. Google typically prioritizes web-based content over PDF files, search engines also crawl PDFs for updates less frequently, and images in PDFs are less likely to appear in Google image search results. If you need help converting old PDFs, please reach out! If you have concerns about printing, keep in mind that our database is designed to print web-based publications in a friendly format, or consider creating both a web-based publication and a printable PDF.

Tags & Categories

Be sure to include relevant tags and select appropriate categories and associated topic sites. This ensures that your publication will be highlighted in several areas throughout our websites as well as promoted on related publication pages.

Include Images

Publications with images are more likely to catch and keep someone’s attention, and users may also find your publication when doing image-based searches.

Highlight Publications in Your News Feed

Consider creating a short news post that links to newly published publications or timely publications, matching current events or seasonal changes.

Keep Your Publications Up-To-Date

The content database sends notifications about revising and renewing publications after 5 years; however, you may have publications that need to be updated more frequently!

If you have recurring publications like annual reports, it may make sense to regularly update a single pub each year rather than creating a new one. This ensures the URL stays consistent so that any outside sites linking to your content automatically link to the most recent report.
