We are at that point in the year where we are updating lots of things. The first thing is the Mac OS. We are asking that you make the upgrade to Mac OS Ventura. The Ventura upgrade will help keep us in compliance with the Endpoint Security Standard. Mac computers supported by EIT can go to the System Preferences and choose Software Update. Mac OS Ventura will be listed as an upgrade. The upgrade happens in two parts. The first is the download phase. During the download, you can continue to work as normal. The second part is the upgrade itself. The computer will prompt you to start the upgrade. Once you start the upgrade it will take 30 to 45 minutes to complete. You cannot use the computer during this time. We will follow up in June to ask that the upgrade be completed.

Part of updating things is updating inventory. We are asking that any EIT-managed Macs that are not in regular use be turned on, connected to the network, and upgraded to Mac OS Ventura. These may be computers that do not have a position filled currently, a shared computer used among staff for things like presentations, or one sitting in the closet for some other reason. If you do not have an account that you can use to login to the computer then please call the EIT Helpdesk and we can help you login.

The last item we are updating is networks. We are asking the office to consider the network experience they are having in offices, meeting spaces or outdoors. Please contact the EIT Helpdesk if you feel that a staff member is experiencing significantly less speed in their office than the rest of the office. Also consider meeting spaces like auditoriums or conference rooms and if there is a need for more network availability in the room. Lastly, think about both outdoor areas and secondary buildings that are used for teaching purposes. If networking would be helpful, then reach out to the EIT Helpdesk. Nathan will contact you and we will work on a plan to cover the new space.
