Zoom’s original Polls feature enables you to craft single- or multiple-choice questions for your Zoom meetings. Now, they’ve added Advance Polling, which provides additional options such as matching, ranked choice, short answer, and long answer. Plus, you can set correct answers to turn your poll into a quiz.

Launch a poll during your meeting to gather responses from participants. Polling reports contain full details of the poll results, such as each participant’s answers and submission times. These reports are available after the meeting, but can also be made available during the live session. If desired, polls can be conducted anonymously to avoid collecting participant information with the poll results.

By default, only the original meeting host can edit or add polls. If the host role is transferred, the new user will only be able to launch existing polls. To allow alternative hosts to add or edit polls, the host must enable the setting when assigning the alternative host.

To use Advanced Polling, all meeting participants must have the supported version or higher. Otherwise, they won’t be able to view or take part in an advanced poll or quiz. If they can’t update to the minimum version, we suggest they join through the web client.

Limitations

  • Aggregate quiz and poll results are not available after the meeting ends. Re-launching the quiz will erase all previous answers.
  • If a poll is re-launched during a meeting, the poll report will only display the last poll occurrence. To obtain data from both sets, consider creating a second poll with the same questions as the original, instead of re-launching.
  • Quiz and poll results do not indicate correct or incorrect answers.
  • Points for correct answers are not available.
  • The title of the quiz or poll is not displayed in the post-meeting report, making it difficult to understand which answers are associated with a particular question.

Creating an Advanced Poll

Sign in to NC State’s Zoom website. In the navigation menu, click Meetings. Select the topic of your scheduled meeting. If you don’t have a meeting scheduled, schedule one now.

At the top of the page, click the Polls/Quizzes tab. Note: If the tab is labeled as just Polls, advanced polling and quizzes have not been enabled. To enable this feature, go to your Settings menu and navigate to the Meeting Polls/Quizzes section. Check the “Allow host to create advanced polls and quizzes” option.

Finally, click Create and select Advanced Polls and Quizzing.
