Old Content Review Time Is Here

(Updated: Aug. 15, 2024, 1:30 p.m.)

The Old Content Review Report identifies pages and posts on your site that are old. This tool helps to remove dated content from our Extension websites. This year we will focus on any content published before January 1, 2021.

For county sites only, any content dated earlier than January 1, 2021, will be removed from your site on January 31, 2025, unless you decide it is still appropriate. Older content you want to keep will need to either be edited or moved to draft.

Content on topic websites will not be automatically removed but we still encourage you to review your old content. EIT will work directly with selected topic site editors to help manage old content on topic websites.

TheOld Content Review Reportallows you to review older content on your site and helps you to decide whether it should be kept or deleted. Employees have access to review content on any site to which they have editing access.

You can find the Old Content Report In the left-hand admin menu on your WordPress site. This report shows a list of site content that is considered old.

If you want to delete one of these Pages or Posts completely, you should click Edit and then select the red Move to Trash link in the right-hand column (next to the Update button).

For a county site, if you want to keep the page or post, you will need to update it so that it is current and will be exempted from archiving. You also have the option of moving it to Draft so you can update the content at a later date. Moving the content to draft will remove the page/post from your site until it is republished.

PLEASE NOTE FOR COUNTY SITES ONLY: Anything left in the Old Content queue on January 31, 2025 will be automatically removed so we strongly advise you to take action on these posts yourself.

Some tips on reviewing old content:

Page Views
  • If your old content is still getting a lot of page views (typically more than 500 in the past 3 months), think about creating a brand new Post with similar, but more timely or refreshed information.
  • If a Page or Post was written by someone who is no longer with Extension, you may want to remove it and let the current subject matter expert write their own updated version.
  • If your Page has an old photo, think about updating it or adding one. Our data shows that Pages and Posts with at least one high-quality picture perform better!
  • If there is no number in the Page Views column, click View Report to see the full stats. If it is content related to a particular time of year, it may be best to remove it and rewrite it for the next specific season.
