Requesting Generic Accounts

Generic accounts represent a role rather than in individual. A Google Group is an online environment where group members can communicate and collaborate on items of interest and can also be used for permission management.

The technical contact in EIT and the administrative contacts should be the IM Agent and someone within the county hosting the program.

  • Log into the web registry at https://webregistry.ncsu.edu
  • Start a request for a Google Generic Account
  • Read the information and then click
  • Enter the program name for the first name and the county for the last name
  • Enter the desired email address. Note that this must be at least 11 characters long.
  • Leave the next two fields unchecked -- do not have this address added to the NCSU directory or logged separately in Postini.
  • Add a few sentences describing the purpose of the account.
  • On the next page, add someone within the county hosting the program as administrative contacts.
  • Add a second employee within the county as the technical contact, for example, the computer contact.

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) normally processes these requests within a day or two.
