Below you will find the most common questions you may have about using SlickText. If you cannot find the answers needed below, please reach out to the EIT Helpdesk.

How do I get SlickText for my County Extension Center?

County Extension Directors may request accounts for their staff by sending an email to the EIT Helpdesk with names and NC State unity id for each person needing an account. Once accounts are created, individuals will each receive an invite from SlickText.

How do I access SlickText?

SlickText is a web based cloud application. You will access SlickText at https://app.slicktext.com and you will login using your ncstateid@ncsu.edu email address once your account has been created and you have received your invite from SlickText.

How much will SlickText cost my county?

SlickText is being provided by NC State Extension to counties at no cost to your county budget.

Can I use SlickText for a departmental program?

Our current implementation of SlickText is only for County Extension Centers. Departments may explore the use of SlickText on their own if you choose. Extension IT cannot support departmental use of SlickText, but we can help you with information about how counties are using the system.  Contact the EIT Helpdesk at eithelpdesk@ncsu.edu or 919-513-7000 if you want more information.

Does my county have its own unique texting phone number?

Yes - each county has it own unique phone number for your SlickText service. This number will be what sends messages and will also be the number that people can use to subscribe to your lists.

How do I get people's phone numbers on my list?

There are quite a few ways that a person can become subscribed to your text list; all of which require consent from the subscriber prior to adding them in. You can add people manually, though web opt-in forms, through text to join, or through uploads.

Is there a limit to the number of messages?

Each county does have a limited number of messages that you can send, however, we have the flexibility to add more credits to your county if needed. Please send a request to eithelpdesk@ncsu.edu if you are running low on credits.

Can I add images to my messages?

You can add image attachments to your messages, however attaching a file will use 3x as many credits as a standard message. This is because the cellular carriers charge more for MMS messages than standard SMS. We encourage you to use images if necessary for the conveyance of your message and refraining from images if they are not necessary.

Can I send out links to my event registrations?

Yes. You can certainly use SlickText to send out information about upcoming events or event reminders.  Links to Eventbrite registrations can be included in the text messaging.

How do I get support for SlickText?
