Presentation Remote Tips

(Updated: Feb. 17, 2022, 6:05 a.m.)

If you are using a wireless presentation remote that requires a USB-A receiver, you may run into issues using it with the newer MacBook Pros without built-in USB-A ports. Most third party USB-A adapters cause interference for these MacBook Pros due to the wireless signals in the 2.4 range that the receiver uses.

EIT's recommendation would be to use one of Apple's adapters that has a USB-A port if you are going to use a presentation remote that requires a USB receiver. There are also presentation remotes that do not use a USB-A receiver and instead use bluetooth that we would also recommend using that would not require the Apple adapter.

Keep in mind, however, that even a bluetooth model can have issues with interference if you also have a third party adapter plugged into your MacBook Pro while using the presentation remote.

If you need an Apple adapter, EIT can order one for you. Please contact the EIT Help Desk at eithelpdesk@ncsu.edu or 919-513-7000.
