Good Practices
It's a good idea to review good practices when it comes to detecting phishing emails.
- verify the sender, even if it is an @ncsu.edu address
- hover over links to see where they point to and do not click on them if the destination doesn't match up to the text
- be suspicious if you are asked for contact, login or financial information
- if you are threatened and asked to send money, you can assume this is a scam
Report it
Use Gmail’s built-in reporting feature:
If you suspect phishing, do not reply or forward the email. Report it directly to the Office of Information Technology
