One of the more confusing topics around Artificial Intelligence in Extension isn't the how. It's the what. What products and tools do I have access to? Luckily NC State's OIT provides specific guidelines in regards to this question.
First, keep in mind what data level you are going to use in the product. If you have questions about the level of data you have access to, please review the Data Classification Levels.
The below Approved AI Products are approved with the use of a paid account. The provided links will provide more insights as to what they may entail.Approved AI Products that Do NOT Require ITPC for Green/Yellow Data
- Google Gemini Chat
- Google Gemini for Workspace
- Microsoft Copilot
- Microsoft Copilot for M365
- OpenAI ChatGPT Teams
- OpenAI ChatGPT Enterprise/EDU
- Grammarly Pro/Education
- Zoom AI Companion
Use of Red/Purple Data with these products still requires an ITPC request.Per OIT, be aware you need ITPC approval of the free versions of these tools.
Note: Free versions of tools like ChatGPT and Grammarly are not recommended because they use our data to train the public model. Any use of these tools will require ITPC approval. Once approved, these tools can only be used with green (not sensitive) data.
For additional tools outside of those above, OIT currently has a list of 39 products approved for use.
