Microsoft has announced the End Of Life (EOL) date for Windows 10.  This is a notice that no more updates or security patches will be available for Windows 10 after that date.  Microsoft has set the date for October 25, 2025.  

Computers running Windows 10 will not be allowed on NC State networks after October 25, 2025.  Earlier Windows operating systems are already past their EOL date and not allowed. The rule for computers on the university network is part of the RUL 08.00.14 – System and Software Security Patching Standard, specifically section 9.

Computers that are not on the NCSU network or owned by NC State but are used to conduct NC State business have to follow a different set of rules.  The Endpoint Protection Standard, RUL 08.00.18 – Endpoint Protection Standard, applies to all machines accessing NCSU data.  The section of the rule for endpoints not owned by the university is in section 6. 

All of these rules are covered by the Computer Use Regulation, REG 08.00.02 – Computer Use Regulation. All employees of NC State are required to follow the Computer Use Regulations.

Computers running Windows 10 must be upgraded to Windows 11 to continue operating on the NCSU network.  The specific requirements for running Windows 11 can be found on Microsoft's Website. You will need to work with the people managing your Windows 10 computers to upgrade or replace the Windows 10 machines before the EOL date of October 25, 2025.
