Ask an Expert Service Being Retired

The Ask an Expert service offered by eXtension is being retired. eXtension will soon replace it with a new service called Ask Extension. (Learn more about eXtension’s plans.)
With input from Extension Administration and the County Operations Team, we are not planning to adopt the new system in any statewide manner.

What This Means for Your Office

On November 2, 2020, EIT will remove the Ask an Expert widget from the sidebar of your site(s).

Implications for County Websites

EIT will add a news post to your county site to direct site visitors to your staff page to access the appropriate agent to answer their questions. You’ll likely see an uptick of questions coming into your email.

Implications for Topic (Portal) Websites

If you’re a contributor to a specialist-led portal, this won’t impact you greatly, as most questions were consumer-focused and were directed back to the county-based Extension agents.

Migrating to Ask Extension

At any time, if your county or portal team chooses to use the new Ask Extension system, you will be able to do so. Read about eXtension’s Ask Extension launch. Contact EIT after you’re given access to Ask Extension and EIT will work with you to incorporate the new service into your site(s).
