Mac OS Installation Error Message and Fix

— Written By

We’ve had reports of some Mac users not being able to update their operating system. The issue seems to be a bug with the Apple software update itself.

Trying to update may display a message that “Mac OS installation can’t be completed” with some other text and the system will not finish booting up to the Log In screen.

If you experience this, the following steps should resolve the issue:

  1. When this message displays, you should see an option to Restart. Select Restart and immediately hold down the Option key to the left of the space bar. Continue to hold down the Option key until you see ‘Macintosh HD’ as an option to select.
  2. Select ‘Macintosh HD’ and any prompts to proceed. This should take you to the Log In screen.
