Collapse ▲The 2017 Atlantic hurricane season officially starts today on June 1st and runs through November. Tropical storm and hurricane activity typically reaches a peak from August through October. Now is the time to prepare.
Forecasters are predicting a more active season this year. NOAA’s forecast calls for eleven to 17 named storms, five to 9 of which would become hurricanes. Two to 4 are projected to become major hurricanes. While these forecasts project the number of storms expected for 2017, it’s impossible to project where any given storm will track.
All residents along the coast should have a preparedness plan in place and plan for the worst-case scenario every year. Being prepared is the best way to protect your life and property in the event of a storm. In fact, hurricanes and tropical systems can impact all areas of North Carolina and, therefore, all residents of our state should be prepared for these storms.
