Two Changes to Events and Promoted Posts

— Written By

On Friday, Jan. 6 we made two small changes to some of the basic functions of our new design.

The first change is that on your events page (i.e. we will no longer include events from the topic portal(s) that you subscribe to. We found that oftentimes, while these events may have been relevant to your users, they weren’t geographically close enough to your county to even be feasible for most folks to attend and they were pushing your own county events further down the page. In a future update, much farther down the road, we may consider pre-scanning these events for “actual proximity” to your county office, and only then — selectively include them in your list.

The second change has to do with the “Featured” (or Promoted) News Items that stay pinned to your homepage. When we first launched this feature with the new design in October of 2016, we offered an option to pin the content to your homepage “indefinitely.” Unfortunately after watching folks use this feature for the past three months, we’ve noticed that many of the posts pinned “indefinitely” have already fallen out of relevance. Moving forward, we will not provide “indefinitely” as an option; you’ll be asked to provide a specific date.

As always, if you have any questions, feedback or suggestions, please reach out to us by emailing the EIT Helpdesk at
