New Intranet in the Works
Over the summer, EIT will start transitioning away from the Mediawiki Intranet our organization has used for almost a decade into a new, Intranet portal in our WordPress system. Like the current Intranet, the new Intranet will allow all extension personnel to post work related content. The new Intranet will still be open only to employees.
Why are we doing this?
Working in an Intranet portal will be more familiar and intuitive to everyone who already uses our web system. The content will be mobile friendly and even a little prettier than the very plain text pages we’re able to create now in the wiki.
To get started, EIT is moving our still current technology content to this portal and weeding out outdated technology aids. From now on, for the most up to date EIT content, you’ll want to look right here, in our EIT portal. Before we had Google Apps as a better alternative for small group sharing, we also used the Intranet to share documentation among ourselves, so we’re moving some of that historical content into Google Apps.
We plan to “go live” with in the new Intranet in July. It will eventually become the new home for archived administrative messages and internally focused organizational information. We plan to build in some time-saving features, too, like a way for county centers to post inclement weather office closings to both their public site and the new Intranet in one step.
Over the next six months, we’ll work through the rest of the content in the wiki, contacting individual content owners and offices to make sure we handle your still-current content with the care it deserves, and let go of the outdated content that is cluttering up the system. We’ll also do plenty of training to support the transition.
By January 1, 2016, we plan to shut down the wiki and be back to a single Intranet. Stay tuned for more on this process!
